Habitat for Humanity and its volunteers at work.
“Habitat for Humanity” has come to the Cayman Islands and the first two low cost homes are now under construction in West Bay, through voluntary work, and have already been allocated.
Much of the materials are donations or discounted and the goal is to provide housing “at cost” for those who otherwise could never afford it.
Habitat for Humanity is a large, well-established non-profit organisation, which has already provided housing for many, many needy people in the US and across the globe through the generous donations of time, materials and money.
The cost of construction becomes a low mortgage payment that the new owners can manage to pay back into the Habitat for Humanity coffers to perpetually continue to build new homes.
The group urgently needs volunteers (skilled and inexperienced alike) for block laying and simple carpentry starting this Wednesday and Saturday. Also always needed are land, material and cash donations.
To volunteer or make donations, please contact the Project Manager Monte Lee Thornton at (345) 925-5725.
Habitat for Humanity expresses thanks to its volunteers, Flowers block factory and PricewaterhouseCoopers for their assistance.
