The importance PricewaterhouseCoopers (PwC) places on giving back to the community was demonstrated again when the firm donated computer equipment and an IT lesson to Positive Intervention Now (PIN), a programme designed by St George’s Anglican Church to promote academic growth, social etiquette and self-confidence in select students from the George Town school district.
“New laptops are a sure way to put a smile on any child’s face. More importantly, this equipment helps with many aspects of the PIN programme, including training, research and creative activities,” said St George’s Reverend Mary Graham.
“These children are at risk both socially and academically and part of our mission is to equip them with skills to help improve their chances of success. We’re really so grateful to Nick Freeland, Ben McLaughlin and the generosity of PwC.”
PwC Senior Partner, Nick Freeland, believes in the importance of sponsoring programmes such as PIN.
“There are many great kids out there who just need a little bit of guidance and support to keep them out of trouble. It’s great to witness Reverend Graham and the folks at St George’s bring PIN’s vision to life. We’re very pleased to contribute to this important effort,” he said.
Three laptops and a printer-scanner combo were presented to St. George’s by PwC and part of the donation included a day of basic IT training.
“The day after we made our presentation, Ben McLaughlin, from our IT Department, spent the day assisting with the set-up and providing training on how to scan, print and use the new laptops. I think it was a lot of fun and very useful for those involved,” Mr Freeland said.
Reverend Graham explains that children enrolled in PIN are selected from schools in the George Town district.
“The school Principals and counsellors make the selection and fifteen children attend classes three afternoons a week for eight months,” Reverend Graham said.
“Their parents are also asked to participate by attending parent-child activities on a regular basis.”
The PIN curriculum includes lessons in: a) Social Studies and Civics; b) Etiquette and Social Grooming; c) Literacy; d) Numeracy; e) Creative Arts; and f) Spiritual Growth.
