The role of the woman in today’s business environment, her participation in taking important decisions and initiating strategic moves as well as the future challenges and opportunities of the future, were explored and analysed at the conference organised by PricewaterhouseCoopers.
PricewaterhouseCoopers together with their Chair in Applied Accounting Research at Intercollege and in cooperation with a research company have carried out a qualitative and quantitative survey for the position and the role of the woman in modern businesses.
Specifically a number of young ascending career women who hold key positions in decision centres in the 80 leading public companies, as well as in the Cyprus government and semi-government organisations was surveyed. The results of the survey were presented at the conference by Dr. Maria Krambia-Kapardis, holder of the PwC Chair at Intercollege and Mr Yiannis Dimakis Strategist, Executive Director of STR Ltd.
Amongst the distinguished speakers at the conference were the Honourable Minister of Labour and Social Insurance, Mr Antonis Vasiliou, H.E. the Indian High Commissioner Mrs Neelam Sabharwal and Mr Sam DiPiazza, the Chief Executive Officer of PricewaterhouseCoopers International.
A panel consisting of Mrs Chrystalla Georghadji, the Auditor General of the Republic of Cyprus, Mrs Elpida Keravnou-Papailiou, the Vice-Rector for Academic Affairs, University of Cyprus and Mrs Paula Hadjisoteriou, Chief Financial Officer, Eurobank EFG.
Androulla Pittas, Member of the Board of PricewaterhouseCoopers Cyprus, welcoming the speakers and the 180 participants at the conference said “the role of women has developed and continuous its long developing course, throughout the years. This role, apart from its social aspect, has in our days a financial dimension. The response of women in their multiple duties, is directly connected with streamlining the social and financial environment.”
Sam Di Piazza the Global Chief Executive officer of PwC noted that “It is the quality of our people, who are our strength. Therefore we invest in people to enable them to perform well with our clients and with each other. Without the best people around the world we cannot have the best quality.”
In his address, Phidias Pilides, the Chief Executive Officer of PricewaterhouseCoopers in Cyprus stressed that «the integration of the female creativeness and skills in the economic web, has given an important push in the development of the local and the international economy. In today’s demanding business environment the utilization of skills and knowledge of the whole Human Capital of an organisation is a requirement for success. Today we have to concentrate on the ways in which female women can contribute to face the challenges in business.”
