Rupert Stadler is Chairman of the Board of Management of Audi AG, the German automobile manufacturer based in Ingolstadt, Bavaria. Audi's slogan—"Vorsprung durch Technik"—translates as "Advancement through Technology" or "Head Start through Technology". No surprise then, that when Mr. Stadler and his managers are on the hunt for talent they "look for people with a passion for their work, who interact well with their colleagues, who can engage in constructive debate and discussion". But, he goes on to say, "we [also] like people who question established wisdom, who are comfortable getting outside of their skin, so to speak".
This forward-looking thinking is typical of Mr. Stadler's take on things, whether it's climate change, regulation ("overall it is increasing significantly although many regulators claim to be trying to decrease bureaucracy"), collaboration (it "plays a substantial role at Audi"), or how to navigate the US sub-prime lending crisis that is now roiling the world's financial markets.
