Rafael del Pino is Chairman of the Ferrovial Group. |
Rafael del Pino—a civil engineer by training who holds an MBA from MIT's Sloan School of Management —leads Ferrovial, a multinational Spanish company that operates in construction, airports, toll roads and car parks, and services.
Unlike some of his colleagues, he feels that business collaboration underpins his company's whole acquisition strategy. "We're not here to 'make a quick buck' by merely making a financial investment in a target company" says Mr. del Pino. "Our approach is to obtain majority positions so we can actively manage the companies we acquire. Our goal is to become a 'local company' in each of the international markets where we operate, working closely with local partners, banks, suppliers, and governments". In the interview below you can see how this successful CEO manages, and thinks about, such issues as business risk, the global regulatory environment, climate change, and the scarcity of talent.
