Cutting Compliance Costs : Customs & International Trade

You can reduce delays and lower compliance costs by using customs facilities such as:

  • Community Transit : Approved consignor / consignee
The Community Transit system enables goods to rapidly cross internal EU borders and a number of non-EU borders with the minimum of delay. Although movement of goods under the system normally beings and ends at designated customs stations you can elect, subject to approval by Customs, to begin and end such movements at your premises. You then become an approved consignor/ consignee.

  • Pre-authenticated documents
You may apply to obtain supplies of duty preference certificates (eg. EUR1 certificates) which have already been validated by Customs. This avoids delays at the time of export. For certain trade agreements, special arrangements can be made for annual preference certificates. Please click here for more information on preference.

  • General valuation statement
Where appropriate, you may find it useful to submit an annual valuation declaration. If accepted by Customs, this will obviate the need to produce separate value declarations with each qualifying individual import consignment.

  • Simplified Procedures
Legislation provides for a number of simplified procedures including the use of commercial documents in lieu of customs forms and the submission of import and export declarations on a periodic rather than of an individual consignment basis. Legislation also allows for submissions to be made on computer media

  • Single European Authorisation (SEA)
It is possible to apply for an authorisation to complete customs formalities for all imports and exports into and out of the EU at a single place in the EU. Please click here for more information on SEA.
