Alex W. Widmer: PwC Global CEO Survey perspectives

Alex W. Widmer is CEO of Bank Julius Baer.

An economist who holds a Ph.D from the University of St. Gallen in Switzerland, Alex Widmer began his career at the Credit Suisse Group, becoming CEO of Bank Julius Baer in 2006. Presiding, as he does, over the bank's operations in asset management, wealth management and investment consultation, investment funds for private and institutional investors as well as securities and foreign exchange trading, Mr Widmer has a unique view of today's business world.

In this wide-ranging interview he explains why, amongst other things, Bank Julius Baer won't be outsourcing its IT operations anytime soon; why he thinks that the current market turndown is "Going to get much worse"; why hiring and developing talent has become a key competitive factor for his bank; and why he thinks that "The Swiss authorities are sometimes too ready to cooperate, and too quick to subject bank clients that are domiciled overseas to suspicions of tax fraud."
