Retail and Consumer

The Bulgarian retail market remains attractive for foreign retail investors. There is still enough room for growth, even though the number of outlets has increased considerably. The next few years will see further expansion of foreign chains in Bulgaria, and their share in retail sales will grow.

With the forthcoming accession of Bulgaria to the EU in 2007, retail and consumer goods companies will face the challenge of more regulatory requirements covering VAT issues, legislation for protection of consumers’ interests, trained work force etc.

Local retail players are actively investing in the country and in the South East Europe region to increase market share in order to become attractive to strategic investors after 2007.

PricewaterhouseCoopers has formed a strong Retail and Consumer industry group of professionals that provides assurance, tax and advisory services to global companies that have entered the Bulgarian retail market, as well as local and regional companies interested in expanding their businesses. Our capability in this industry is significant, and it is constantly improving through intensive training of our staff. Through our global network, we bring international and local experience and knowledge to our clients. We help our clients respond to the challenges of the market, which is rapidly evolving.
