To hedge or not to hedge

The number and complexity of derivatives available to mining companies has increased dramatically. At the same time, regulators are increasingly tightening and formalizing corporate governance responsibilities.

The mining sector has had a steady stream of dramatic, unforeseen financial crises, some leading to corporate collapse. These have stemmed from the failure or inability of management to understand, design, control and account for a hedging strategy properly.

We work with the management teams of many mining companies in Canada and around the world to tackle these issues. We help managers of mining companies consider strategic options, implement a strategy, monitor and control the programme and consider the accounting implications.
