Death of deference

We live in a less deferential age - service users today defer less to expert opinion and to established sources of advice than ever before. This research project with the Social Market Foundation will examine how the acceptance of traditional forms of authority has declined in recent years in the UK, and what this implies for public services, particularly in healthcare and education.

Whilst the research focuses on the UK, many of the recommendations are likely to be of international interest e.g. on how policymakers can best adapt public services to meet the changing demands of service users, and how such changes can contribute to improving outcomes for all stakeholders.
