A career in tax – a good choice!
As a student looking to graduate in the next year or two, you’re thinking about what is the right career for you. We would like to suggest an option you may not have thought about, but which can open up a world of possibilities.

Tax plays a key role in the South African and global business environment; in fact, you will usually find it is the biggest expense in any business. It’s what makes the tax profession one of the most varied and challenging professions to be in today. It calls upon every ounce of your judgement, expertise and creativity. It can open doors to careers beyond the finer detail of the Income Tax Act, and give you insights into the heart of the Boardroom.

Join us in making a difference
Although tax practitioners need to be registered with SARS, there is currently no generic qualification for the tax profession in South Africa.

Recent developments mean that our clients and regulators demand that tax advice is provided by competent people. The fact is that demand for top-class tax consultants exceeds supply at the moment, and this gap is likely to widen in the future.

We want to play our part in developing tomorrow’s tax experts, and that the key to success is to ensure quality through a solid foundation in tax principles, practice and application.

It’s why we have launched the PwC Tax Academy to give the best and brightest the chance to be part of a unique accelerated learning experience. After approximately 24 months, you can secure a certificate awarded by PwC, which demonstrates a marketable standard of expertise, obtained from one of South Africa’s leading advisory businesses.

The standards we set are exacting, but the rewards are worth it. At the end of the day, one of the key measures of success of the PwC Tax Academy will be the response you’ll get when someone sees your certificate and business card. They’ll know you’ve received first-class training at a first-class training ground.

Whether you enjoy a long career with PwC, as many of our people do, or whether we proudly see you move onto new opportunities, we want to help guide a new generation of tax experts into meeting new-century challenges.

Who is eligible for the Tax Academy?
Students who have successfully completed a B Com or LLB qualification may apply to the PwC Tax Academy. No articles are required. Candidates who are studying towards other disciplines can also be considered if interested in pursuing a career in Tax.
