Advisory

There’s no typical day in our Advisory practice. We work with organisations in different sectors that are looking for advice and creative solutions on a wide range of issues, including major transactions, organisational changes and strategic decisions. In fact, almost any challenging situation faced by a client can benefit from the involvement of our Advisory specialists.

Although our Advisory practice actually consists of six specialist areas, we are only currently recruiting graduates into two of these areas; Process Assurance (PA) and Performance Improvement (PI). That said, whichever one of these areas you join, you have the flexibility to continue your career elsewhere within the Advisory group or the wider firm.

What do we do?
Working closely with our Assurance colleagues a large number of our Process Assurance (PA) team work to understand our clients systems and processes, in order to support the financial audit. This is carried out through meetings with the client, getting to understand the way they run their business, testing, reviewing documentation and the gathering audit evidence. We evaluate and validate IT controls, at an operating system, database and application level. We also carry out data interrogation work using a suite of specialised tools.

Performance Improvement (PI), on the other hand, is about helping clients make the most of the latest technologies and methodologies to resolve problems, capitalise on opportunities and execute change within their organisations. This is an area of real growth for PwC and the work we do within PI extends to a wide range of specialist areas including IT, finance, operations, strategy and HR.

The 100 professionals who make up our PA and PI teams, regularly work together to provide clients with a solution that combines skills from both areas. So joining our Advisory practice as a graduate is a great way to gain a huge breadth of experience early in your career and to work with and learn from a range of multi-disciplined, skilled professionals.

Who makes use of our services?
Private and public sector clients come to us for advice on everything from business acquisitions to new IT systems to forensic services. We’re also there to provide support with litigation, insolvency, the financing of projects and privatisation initiatives. Often, you’ll find us helping underperforming businesses to take a new direction.

How are we organised?
We are organised into six specialist areas: Corporate Finance, Corporate Recovery & Insolvency, Process Assurance, Performance Improvement, Transaction Services and Strategy Advisory Services. Our Advisory practice delivers a broad range of services to clients across all industry sectors in Ireland and internationally.

What qualification can I aim for?
In Process Assurance, although it’s not compulsory, we encourage our PA graduates to study for the Chartered Accountancy (ACA) qualification.

In Performance Improvement, studying for a professional accountancy qualification is not as common but with our support, you too may choose to pursue the Chartered Accountancy (ACA) qualification.

Study for the ACA qualification
The range of exemptions from the ACA examinations is dependent upon the level and results of degree/postgraduate qualification obtained. Please visit the ICAI website for further information.

The firm will pay the following fees which arise during the ACA training contract period:-

  • Student Registration Fees
  • Exemption Fees
  • CAP 1 / Prof 3, FAE Course Fees (first attempt only)
  • Exam Fees (first attempt only)
