Read the accounts of some of our associates and see why they think PwC is a great place to work

It all began on the first of February, I came in that day very excited and eager to see other trainees as I had been looking forward to this for over a year now.
The first thing that surprised me was the method of introduction which seemed a little bit unconventional where we had to introduce ourselves by matching it with a word that describes us and repeating every other persons name and adjective.
The second thing was that in interacting with the experienced staff, it did not feel like a “yes sir” type of relationship, which was pretty interesting considering the background of the average Nigerian. So far I have met so many interesting individuals both my fellow trainees and some of the staff. The learning experience has been really wonderful as it has exposed me to different ways and methods of learning.

The PwC maze has been unravelled. Now, I seem to know my way around this place. I can tell Lines of Service apart from Industry groups. When does work start because I’m yearning for my first experience at a client’s office!

Entwined strongly with their values is their outlook to life. PwC people are people with a strong sense of fairness, integrity and taste, my kind of people. The PwC setting is one of the kind; a mix of simplicity, openness and professionalism. The office’s unique physical arrangement and reporting structure as well as its allowance for career development and growth gives it a rare mix that you don’t find in too many places. I found here at PwC a sense of security, confidentiality and efficiency that’s not too common within the Nigerian corporate market. Way to go PwC!

As expected, I was very excited at the thought of taking on new challenges, meeting new people and developing my career. I had expectations concerning what opportunities the organisation had to offer, the kind of people I’d be working with as well as the conditions of service. While most of my expectations were confirmed, some were not. Those that were not confirmed were actually surpassed!
PwC places significant emphasis on attributes such as Integrity, Respect and Teamwork. For instance, I quickly realised that respect does not necessarily mean that you attach a title to a person’s name. Rather, it is reflected in your attitude towards your duties and your colleagues. Arriving late for a meeting could be a sign of disrespect for other team members.
At PwC, I have learnt the importance of having good working relationships with colleagues. Whether you like it or not, you’re stuck with these people for an average of eight hours daily, so you might as well enjoy it while you are at it! I have found that Pwc is a fun place to work. We have smart people who also know how to live life as well – a very nice balance indeed.
I have had to unlearn a lot of the things I’ve known all my life and relearn new ways of doing things. I am very optimistic about what the future holds as regards my career at Pwc and I know the best is yet to come.

The PwC experience has been an exciting and challenging one. So much is given to you and at the same time quite a lot is expected. Notwithstanding, the learning is done at a very relaxed atmosphere. PwC staff show a lot of respect for each other and even as new staff we have been accorded the same level of respect. This doesn’t just happen amongst peers as even top management personnel are also very willing to help in anyway they can. The challenging work environment and also the firm’s expectation tends to bring out the best in
us as it requires you to think constantly and at the same time, be innovative.

I thought I knew a lot of things but I came to realise that there are still a lot of things for me to learn. I got to meet the most wonderful people when I started. My class was filled with unique, interesting people, each with his/her own qualities.
The facilitators were exceptional. I learnt many things I did not know before coming. New accounting terms and insights into the things I knew before. Interesting things about tax, wonderful advisory techniques. I also learnt new important ethics that I always overlooked before now, I understood the PwC brand and what it means to uphold the brand. I learnt what it takes to make PwC what it is today.

Fresh from school and still ignorant of the future, I was launched into the labour market. Thanks to friends who were already in the system, I was able to put up a resume and I made a couple of applications - including PwC. Well, the aptitude test was an ocean of brains. The interview was worse, with stiffer opposition. But at the end, I was flying high. From the induction approach, the facilitators, the environment, to my fellow inductees… One can only attest to the assertion that PwC is truly the home of the “Best & Brightest”.
