Exceptional Commitment

The local chapters of the United Way share a single mission: to increase the organized capacity of people to care for one another. Through a vast network of volunteers and community service agencies across the U.S., the United Way addresses the health and human care needs of millions of people every day. PwC has had a longstanding commitment to help in every way.

PwC contributed more than $1 million to the United Way in 2005, making us one of their prestigious National Corporate Leaders (NCL). As an NCL, PwC is recognized for delivering impact in communities through our relationship with United Way. Our partners and staff also spend thousands of hours serving numerous charitable organizations with their time and talent. The United Way helps us further leverage this commitment.

Each office approaches its United Way campaign in a unique way each year to generate enthusiasm and meet or exceeds its fund-raising goal. In New York, this year's theme included a PwC Idol talent show, which celebrated the diverse talents of our people and helped raise awareness of the United Way mission. Three days of auditions led up to the first live show, kicking off the campaign in NYC. Over 20 brave people auditioned in front of volunteer judges. Thirteen went on to compete, and they included 3 guitarists, 3 dancers (Irish, Chinese traditional and Salsa), 6 vocalists (Jazz, Pop and R&B) and one poet. After each show, several contestants were eliminated which resulted in five finalists at the Idol finale. The Idol finale took place on November 15 with the top finalists competing for a grand prize of a $2,500 donation to the charity of their choice.
