Our role here in Process Assurance (PA) is to build a body of evidence on a Company’s processes and internal controls to support Assurance work. So we meet with clients in order to conduct tests and review documentation to create an audit file that certifies what we know about the client and the way they run and control their business.

Commitment to sharing knowledge
Training in PwC is second to none, whether it’s on-the-job experience, classroom tutorials, mentoring, or coaching. Of course there are tough days but sharing knowledge is part of the culture here and help is always available.

The thing I love most about my job is dealing with people everyday. Dealing with a range of clients, from small businesses to multinationals, provides me with a fantastic insight into different companies and allows me to work with people at all levels in different industries. PwC itself is truly multi-cultural – in PA we have people from the US, Venezuela, Mexico, the Philippines and Australia - so I get to mix and work with a huge diversity of people whom I wouldn’t otherwise meet.

PA provides real opportunities to travel in the course of work and I was lucky enough to go to Dallas on an assignment recently. It wasn’t all work; we got to do some touristy stuff too!

Great atmosphere in new Dublin offices
Spencer Dock is a brilliant place to work with excellent facilities and a friendly atmosphere. The PwC sports and social committee organises firm wide events throughout the year, plus each department has its own social committee. Last year PA went on an away-day to an adventure centre and there’s plenty of nights out organised. I’ve made some great friends in PwC and that’s made the move from college to working-life easy for me.

As I majored in Economics at college I wasn’t exempt from any of the accountancy exams and initially I was worried that my lack of accounting knowledge would hinder me. I was assured that it wouldn’t and sure enough I passed my first set of exams and am now onto my next. In fact there are plenty of people here who have non-accountancy backgrounds so it’s not a hindrance and lots of people start off this way.

Passing my exams and getting qualified is my next big goal. I also hope to develop my knowledge in the PA areas that interest me most. You need to be motivated to work in PA as you’re juggling study and work commitments. However, you’re provided with so many opportunities, both professionally and personally, that scope for development is unlimited.
