Working in Tax involves a constantly changing mix of work, including assisting clients meet complex tax obligations, restructuring multi-million dollar investment portfolios, buying businesses, lobbying for changes in the law and advising wealthy individuals on personal tax planning.
As a graduate or summer intern you could find yourself sinking your teeth into some of the following areas of our wide-ranging Tax practice:
Corporate Tax: advising corporate clients on all aspects of tax, including tax efficient funding and group structures, assisting with IRD investigations, managing relationships with tax authorities in NZ or overseas, preparing and reviewing corporate income tax returns and advising on tax balances in financial statements.
International Tax: advising on international transactions and structures for clients expanding into or out of New Zealand, including liaising with PwC offices in other countries.
Mergers and Acquisitions: reviewing historic tax risks facing companies and businesses being bought and sold and advising on tax efficient structures for purchase and sale transactions.
High Net Worth Individuals: advising high-net worth individuals and families in relation to private businesses and investments, often involving issues relating to trusts.
Transfer Pricing: advising on the pricing of cross-border transactions within groups of related companies, including preparing and reviewing supporting documentation.
Indirect Taxes: advising on issues and opportunities in relation to GST.
Tax Technical Knowledge Centre: analysing new legislation, case law and other technical developments and sharing this knowledge with the rest of the practice, including preparing submissions in relation to proposed new legislation.
