Working in the community

At PwC we strongly believe in participating in and supporting our local communities and charitable causes further afield. We actively support a number of programmes which enable our people to take time out of their working day to work with people in the community.

As volunteers for Junior Achievement, many of our people take time out of their working day over a period of 6-12 weeks, to deliver a number of educational programmes targeted at inner city schools. These programmes focus on the delivery of business related topics to students between the ages of 5 to 15 years. As a business volunteer the PwC person brings work experience to schoolchildren by teaching them programmes designed to help them appreciate the value of work and enterprise. All of our volunteers find it a very rewarding and enriching experience, and the feedback from the students is fantastic.

PwC was delighted to participate in Co-Operation Ireland’s 360 mile charity cycle from Cork to Giants Causeway. We have also participated in the Dragon Boat Race in Dublin as part of our participation in the Dublin Docklands Development Authority (DDDA) Social Integration. This programme promotes the value of education throughout disadvantaged schools in the Docklands area.

And further afield
As one of only a small number of employers that enjoys a business partnership with Voluntary Service Overseas (VSO), we’re committed to allowing some of our people to undertake short term assignments with the organisation. To date, PwC people have applied their talents to projects in developing countries. Invariably these people describe their experiences as among the most stimulating and rewarding of their lives.

A great example of Connected Thinking was displayed by PwC people at Ireland v France 2005 Six Nations Rugby International in Lansdowne Road. Supported by the Irish Rugby players, some 120 PwC people, along with friends and family, distributed some 50,000 giant green cards, resulting in a truly impressive sight of a ‘Sea of Green’ to raise awareness of the charity AIDS Partnership with Africa (APA) in it’s fight against the killer disease in Ethiopia and Tanzania.

PwC people supported the 20 th Nike International Half Marathon in Budapest. PwC runners accounted for some 15% of the total race runners. It was clear that the people of Budapest were hugely appreciative of PwC’s support which was for Concern and Chernobyl Children’s Project.
