In July this year I commenced my journey as CEO, and am delighted to also take on the role of Chairman of our Foundation.
I would like to take this opportunity to pay tribute to our outgoing CEO, Tony Harrington. Tony’s establishment of, and deep commitment to, the PwC Foundation (and more recently Global Communities) leaves a great legacy – having redefined and expanded the firm’s contribution to the community. As Tony once said, ‘the Foundation started off as an aspiration and has become a fundamental element of our strategic engagement’.
Over the past five years we have had exceptional success in engaging our people. For example, from FY03 to FY08 the funds distributed to charity partners have risen from $0.7m to $3.8m annually, the percentage of people who make recurring donations has increased from 20 per cent to 26 per cent, and the number of people involved in volunteering has more than doubled, from 24 per cent to 51 per cent. These successes are thanks to the energy, commitment and passion of our people, and in particular the Foundation champion network.
I am excited to take on this role and look forward to further strengthening the positive impact we can all have working with our our charity partners and contributing to the broader community.
