Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) is an important focus of PwC firms worldwide. PwC is constantly seeking ways to give value back to society and the environment using the collective strength of the firm.

Throughout the world, PwC people are involved in the many programmes and projects designed to strengthen the local community and the nation. The various programmes include education, health projects, agricultural assistance, financial support to charities, education and training, arts and culture, physical activity, humanitarian relief aid and other ad-hoc programmes and donations.

In Malaysia, some of our current CSR initiatives include:

Community Outreach Programme (COP)

PwC Malaysia staff volunteer time in two-week blocks between May and November to work at children’s homes in the Klang Valley since 2002. They tutor the children and lend administrative assistance during office hours. PwC gives it staff the time off to do this. Each member of the PwC Leadership also “adopts” a home. COP inculcates socially responsible values among the young/our future leaders. Hundreds have volunteered and many are repeat volunteers.

NSTP-PwC Malaysian Humanitarian Award (MHA)

This joint award by PwC and the New Straits Times Press (Malaysia) Bhd was developed and established in 2004 with the key objectives of not only recognising and rewarding acts of humanity but also to propagate such deeds among Malaysians. The award categories are the Young Humanitarian, Lifetime Humanitarian and Team Humanitarian.

PwC in the Arts

PwC Malaysia is balloting partner for the BOH Cameronian Arts Awards (BCAA). We have played the role of independent balloting partner for the BCAA since its inception in 2002. BCAA is the first and only such award recognising members of the performing arts community in Malaysia.

We have also lent tax assistance to another performing arts endeavour namely M! the Opera.

Nation building

Malaysia being a developing nation, PwC Malaysia believes it has a role to play by actively engaging with national policy developers and regulators early on in the development of laws and regulations in our areas of operation. PwC participates and contributes actively toward the development of relevant rules/guidelines through the government-appointed and other roles played by our people.

Our people have also been involved in PwC Global and Regional Programmes such as:

Project Ulysses - Responsible Leadership

A unique leadership development programme that encourages personal and professional growth while putting into effect PwC's commitment to CSR and sustainable business practices. PwC Malaysia people have participated in projects in Tajikistan (SMI project), Belize (eco tourism) and Paraguay (agriculture school).

Asia 7 Developing Responsible Leaders (DRL) Programme

A mini-Ulysses involving PwC future leaders from seven Asian countries. In the pioneer programme in Bhutan last year, our people assisted the Vocational Training Centre for the Disabled and the Bhutan Chamber of Commerce and Industry.
