New CD/DVD programme challenges women to step up
The Australian firm offers its women a technologically based educational programme designed to help them build the careers that they want.
Called My Mentor: Challenging Women to Step Up, the programme was designed by top Australian business woman Maureen Frank. Winner of a Telstra Business Woman of the Year Award in 2004, Maureen’s work is focused on inspiring women to believe that they can achieve in the business world.
Initially piloted in Sydney for 11 women as part of the firm's eQuilibrium programme, the initiative is currently being rolled out to female partners and directors across the firm.
Participants on the pilot were given CDs and an iPod containing the learning course, as well as DVDs which they watched in their own time. They also formed My Mentor circles, whereby they met up on a regular basis to discuss each module of the course.
Modules include:
- Decide that the time is NOW
- Do you know who you are? Your own personal brand
- Taking calculated risks. Shift the mindset
- Building My Career Plan and My Strategy
- Increasing your visibility and your network
- Playing and communicating to win
- Becoming a master influencer
- Negotiating to win-win
- Striking the balance – creating work life balance in your life
- Go for the KNOCK OUT
A participant in the pilot project commented, "I listened to the mentoring lessons instead of music on my daily walks for a week.... which happened to be the week just before my presentation of a key piece of research to a senior team. I needed a little confidence boost at the time, and the sessions reminded me of stuff that's easy to forget when you're feeling a bit vulnerable".
My Mentor has been so successful in PwC Australia that it is now being piloted by our women in both PwC India and PwC South Africa.
