As a parent, it can be a challenge to juggle career and life responsibilities, particularly for working women. Some mothers exit the workforce entirely, while others leave to work in environments that are perceived to be more family-friendly. At PwC, we believe that the cost of losing talented women is too high and have made it a priority to help our working mothers successfully combine their dual roles.
The first step is to have more candid dialogues about the range of issues which concern women. These topics are hotly debated in the media, in schools, and at home, but too often are not discussed at work. To kick start that conversation, PwC US hosted and filmed a panel of noted authors and experts to discuss juggling work and motherhood. The panellists brought a range of views to the table and often disagreed with one another. The goal was to get beyond superficial platitudes and delve into the complexity of this often emotional debate.
Moderated by Jennifer Allyn, Managing Director in the PwC US Office of Diversity, the panellists included:
- Leslie Bennetts, Author of The Feminine Mistake: Are We Giving Up Too Much?
- Ellen Galinsky, President and co-founder, Families and Work Institute
- Carol Evans, Author of This is How We Do It: The Working Mother's Manifesto
- Simi Nwogugu, CEO and co-founder of 2Hats Network
- Leslie Morgan Steiner, Author of Mommy Wars: Stay-at-Home and Career Moms Face Off on Their Choices, Their Lives, Their Families
