We plan(t) for the future: Experience for Life

Fund-raising gala dinner and lecture in support of the Cyprus Anticancer Society

Τhe position of every organisation in the society needs to be a position of responsibility and active involvement. From the early stages of its creation, PwC in Cyprus plays a leading role in the profession and the community. PwC apply Corporate Social Responsibility consistently. A practice fully harmonised with values of professional ethics, integrity and respect. With feelings of responsibility toward their people, their clients and the society.

Although PwC contributes every year to the Cyprus Anticancer Society, this year they organised a special event that gave the opportunity to their own people to become actively involved in this social cause. People from PwC, together with friends and families, attended a fund-raising gala dinner with a lecture, which was organised on Tuesday, 6 May 2008 at the Hilton Park Hotel in Nicosia. The net proceeds of the event were donated to the Cyprus Anticancer Society, a Society that since its foundation in 1971, continues to fight for the treatment of cancer as well as the alleviation of our suffering fellowpeople.

The proceeds of the event emanated from entrance tickets and a lottery that took place. As an organisation, PwC donated an additional amount, equivalent to the whole proceeds from the event. PwC expressed special thanks to the Hilton Park Hotel for their contribution resulting from the special low price offered for the dinner.

During the event there was a lecture by Dr Demetris Papamichael of the Bank of Cyprus Oncology Centre and a special performance by the well known Cypriot concert and opera singer, Marilena Solomou, whose experience with cancer encourages all of us and makes the difference in facing this disease.

Mr Phidias Pilides, Chief Executive Officer of PwC stressed in his short address that "the future depends on the present. The initiatives we take today, the consistency of the engagements we undertake. This is also evident from our CSR motto “We plan(t) for the future: Experience for Life."

Honouring the event with their presence, were the Minister of Health, Mr Christos Patsalides, who also gave a short address, the Minister of Finance, Mr Charilaos Stavrakis and the President of the Cyprus Anticancer Society, Mr Evdokimos Xenophontos.
