The island is connected to other regional centres by fibre optic cable and satellite, providing reliable telephone and fax services.
Until 2003, Cable & Wireless (Cayman Islands) Ltd. was the sole retail telecommunication provider. As a result of recent deregulation, WestStar TV was granted licenses by the Cayman Islands Information and Communications Technology Authority to provide Internet and Internet telephony service.
Mobile service is available from major carriers including Cable & Wireless, Cingular Wireless, AT&T and Digicel.
Internet services
Cable & Wireless offers dial-up and ASDL high-speed internet connections. WestStar TV offers cable modem high-speed internet.
Internet cafes also offer Internet time at a reasonable cost.
