Hair today, gone tomorrow…
PwC New Zealand people got behind an important cause when they participated in the Leukaemia & Blood Foundation’s Shave for a Cure event on 9 November. More than 60 people in offices across the country spurred on by a challenge from the Bell Gully law firm made bald statements on 9 November earning a record $125,000.
An assistant manager in Napier sacrificed her signature dreadlocks for $5000 while others went beyond shaving. For example, staff in Auckland acquired fluoro Mohawks for a week, a Wellington staff member becoming an ‘Oompa-Loompa’ donning white eyebrows and orange face, someone else became the first anti-shave participant by seeking donations to save himself from having to submit, and a husband and wife team both shaved for the cause.
Underlying all the fun and hilarity of this event lies a serious cause. Many participants know someone affected by leukaemia – either a relative or someone in their circle of friends.
“Thank you doesn’t begin to express our gratitude for the amazing support PwC has shown the Leukaemia & Blood Foundation over these last five years,” said Pru Etcheverry, Executive Director, Leukaemia & Blood Foundation.
"Without your belief, your encouragement and your extreme generosity, our Support Services team could never have grown to its current size – and we certainly would not be in the wonderful position of recruiting for a fourth Patient Support Services Coordinator! PwC’s ongoing sponsorship has given us the courage to continue expanding and we hope you know just how much that growth means to the patients and families we are committed to supporting”.
