I am one: US Month of Service
In 2006, PwC introduced a new community service concept that challenged our people across the US to devote just one day in June to their local communities. During an initiative called 29k/30, we undertook a wide variety of projects throughout that entire month.
The results went beyond anything we could have predicted, with our people participating in hundreds of projects that directly improved individual lives and communities in need.
By June 2007, we had over 30,000 people working for PwC with each one representing a further opportunity for inspiration and positive change. We launched an extensive community service campaign called 1/30,000 during which we hoped to build on our 2006 achievements by focusing on key areas including health and wellness, youth and education, and hunger and the homeless.
Our efforts were highly successful and confirmed that thousands of people working together during a single month could make a substantial difference. Amongst a range of activities we were involved in we walked, ran and cycled over 16,000 kilometres to raise funds for the cure of several life-threatening diseases, prepared hot meals and bagged food and groceries for homeless families, planted more than 1,400 trees and revitalised hundreds of hectares of land.
