PricewaterhouseCoopers (as a representative of the commercial sector) and Nadácia pre deti Slovenska (The Foundation for Slovak Children) (as a representative of non-profit organisations) have prepared a project focused on advising and providing professional assistance to non-government, non-profit organisations. The aim of the project is to achieve transparency of the third sector and help increase the reliability of organisations within the sector.
1st phase of the project
Two years ago, in the first phase of the project, we focused our work on the financial reporting of non-profit organisations. The purpose of this phase was to compare the views of the management of major Slovak companies for the support of non-governmental organisations with the efforts of Slovak non-government organisations in satisfying the requirements of their potential partners, to compare the financial management processes used by non-government organisations, and to inform people about adequate financial management procedures in the third sector and propose concrete solutions. We monitored the situation with a selected sample of non-profit organisations in the form of questionnaires. Summary findings and recommendations are included in “Report on the financial management of non-government organisations, September 2003” [PDF file, 1.46Mb].
2nd phase of the project
In the second phase, we analysed selected annual reports issued by non-government organisations, and we prepared a publication that contains:
- the content of a report that donors would expect, and that they are used to when making decisions; and
- the form of a report that donors can understand and use easily.
Our publication “Do you present yourself sufficiently? A report on the analysis of annual reports of non-government organisations with examples, September 2005“ [PDF file, 1.72Mb] was distributed to about 300 non-government organisations in Slovakia. It contains suggestions and tips for improving annual reports of non-government organisations, as well as examples of procedures that these organisations use.
