Role models: Pam Jackson

Stepping out of my comfort zone

I believe that to climb the corporate ladder as a women you need to be brave and have the confidence to try something new. Two years after I joined what was then called Deloitte Haskins & Sells as a tax consultant, I moved into the corporate finance practice. This was a risk as it was a new area for me and I could have failed. But it proved worthwhile as it helped get me where I am today.

Accepting a secondment to New York was also an important stepping stone. I was asked to move there to lead the UK tax desk for three years and this again took me out of my comfort zone. I made lots of contacts and learnt a great deal.

Making our female leaders more visible

We have some very good senior women in PwC, who are great at leading their teams. I think the challenge is to make them more visible so they can be role models for other women.
