Executive summary: Second quarter 2010
On a quarterly basis, and in collaboration with PwC, the Eurasia Group monitors and assesses major trends shaping global business. In this, our second quarter 2010 report, we examine the fallout from the current worldwide economic turmoil and new uncertainties in international and local political environments. The report focuses on three white papers:
- Trade: Greater risks in 2010 - The risk of protectionism is higher in 2010, even though global economic growth is expected to improve. The direction of global trade will determined by how powerful stakeholders influence the domestic politics of key countries.
- Brazil: Statism clouds positive outlook - Brazil's growth outlook is not at risk, given its responsible macroeconomic policies. Its improved economic outlook will allow the government to pursue more activist industrial policy.
- Energy: Climate change and transportation fuels - The transportation sector is uniquely exposed to climate change and energy security trends. Thus, policies focused on such issues will create new economic challenges.
