Brian Merwin is Vice President Strategic Initiatives for Mercer International, one of the largest NBSK, market pulp producers, in the world. The company operates three of the world’s most modern pulp mills, with one in British Columbia’s interior and two in eastern Germany, serving customers in Europe, Asia and North America. The company has production that totals over 1.46 million tonnes of pulp per year and employs approximately 1,490 people across Europe and North America.
Brian started with Mercer in 2005 and brings with him extensive industry knowledge. Most recently, he was instrumental in the development of the Green Energy Project at Mercer’s Celgar pulp mill. Once complete, this transformative project will result in a 12% reduction in pulp making steam use and a doubling of the mill’s generating capacity which will result in over 238,000 MWh of surplus electricity with almost no increase in the amount of fibre consumed.
Brian holds a Bachelor of Commerce degree from the University of British Columbia and an MBA from the Richard Ivey School of Business.
