Bjorn Stigson

Björn Stigson is President of the World Business Council for Sustainable Development, the world’s leading business organization focused on business and sustainable development.

Björn has extensive experience in international business. He began his career as a financial analyst with the Swedish Kockums Group. From 1971–1982 he held various positions in finance, operations and marketing with ESAB, the international supplier of equipment for welding. In 1983–1991, he was President and CEO of the Fläkt Group, a company listed on the Stockholm stock exchange and the world leader in environmental control technology. Following the acquisition of Fläkt by ABB (Asea Brown Boveri), in 1991 he became Executive Vice President and a member of ABB’s Executive Management Group. In 1995, he was appointed President of the World Business Council for Sustainable Development (WBCSD), a coalition of some 200 leading international corporations.

Björn has served on the board of a variety of international companies and organizations. He is presently a member of the following boards/advisory councils: Prince Albert II of Monaco Foundation; China Council for International Cooperation on Environment and Development; Energy Business Council of the International Energy Agency (IEA); America’s Climate Choices Initiative of the United States Congress; the Veolia Sustainable Development Advisory Committee and the Siemens Sustainability Advisory Board.
