Top 100: year of living dangerously

The Aerospace and Defence Top 100 features insight and comprehensive analysis of the Top 100 marketplace. This report has been compiled by Neil Hampson, PwC’s Global Aerospace and Defence Leader, with support from Assistant Director Anna Sargeant and Senior Associate Rebecca Aitchison, who are both part of the UK A&D Strategy Group. The commentry is written by Flight International magazine and features industry perspectives from Neil and Anna. Key Findings
  • No growth in the period and severe declines in profits: Top 100 aerospace manufacturers had flat growth of revenues of 0.6% and profits declined by -17.3% in 2009
  • Top 20 companies account for 79% of sales and 78% operating profits, whereas in 2008 the top 20 enjoyed more than their share of profits
  • Boeing retakes its place at the top of the table as the largest global A&D company
  • Average profitability was at 8.5%, down from 9.1% in 2008. This puts it back at 2005 levels after five years of steady growth
