Job evaluation

International job evaluation methodology, called IFA (Integrated Factors Analysis©), has proven to be a good tool for structuring positions and salary grades. IFA can be used to grade many different jobs, irrespective of the discipline or level of responsibility involved and regardless of the type or size of the organisation.

IFA works by breaking jobs down into twelve characteristics, grouped into four key components (e.g. the component "expertise" consists of qualification, communication, improvisation, etc.).

These four components are:

  • Expertise
  • Independence
  • Responsibility
  • Working Conditions

The aggregate score allocated to a particular job is the sum total of the various points scored on each of the four key components. Summarised results for individual jobs are based on the total number of points scored. The JOSS method (Job Sizing Scale) is then used to place jobs within the organisational structure.
