3 July 2007 - On 1 July 2007, Sirshar Qureshi (36) was appointed a Partner in PricewaterhouseCoopers´ Forensic Services department in Prague. He will be responsible for further expanding the business and assisting clients in the Czech Republic and other locations in Central Europe.
Sirshar Qureshi will draw on his 15 years of experience of working in the accountancy arena across numerous sectors including banking, telecoms and utilities. He has specialised in forensic services for the last 11 years, focusing on dispute and fraud related matters. He believes his new role will help strengthen PricewaterhouseCoopers’ leadership in assisting clients deal with commercial disputes and fraud:
”Having been in the region for almost six years, I have seen a dramatic increase in the use of forensic services in the Czech Republic and Central and Eastern Europe. Regulatory and legal pressures have meant that organisations are now required to assess fraud risks and to carry out proper investigations if a fraud is perpetrated or suspected. Also companies in dispute, especially those involved in Czech court and arbitration proceedings, have acknowledged the necessity not only of using experienced expert accounts but in getting them involved early in the dispute process to ensure that all eventualities are anticipated.
Going forward we will continue to raise awareness to organisations on how they can combat fraud and to address the one time taboo topic of corruption. Also we will seek to raise the quality of accounting expert reports, so that they are geared to assist, rather than confuse, judges and arbitrators to arrive at their decisions,” said Sirshar Qureshi.
Sirshar Qureshi has been with PwC since 1997. He joined the Forensic Services team in London, focusing initially on dispute and tax investigation cases. He also spent 2 years at the Department of Trade and Industry in the UK, working within the Companies Investigation Branch, carrying out investigations on behalf of the UK government. In 2001, he moved to Prague to develop the Central and Eastern European practice. Since coming to Prague, Sirshar has worked in a number of countries in the region.
He graduated from the University of Nottingham. He is a member of the Association of Chartered Accountants in England and Wales (ACA). Sirshar enjoys playing golf, cricket, field hockey and badminton.
