Over the last 5 years, the financial services sector in the Czech Republic has gone through the second phase of its restructuring and consolidation. With the exception of certain specialized banks, more than 95% of the institutions are now privatized and controlled by foreign shareholders, which brought to the country their capital and their know-how. The insurance sector has also been successfully privatized and opened to foreign investors. All of the financial institutions operating in the Czech Republic have successfully gone through the process of accession to the European Union.
