As this industry advances towards commercialization, Canada maintains its recognition as a leader in the hydrogen and fuel cell industry.

According to the report, in 2007, the Canadian hydrogen and fuel cell sector:

  • Generated $168 million in sales with the US leading with the most revenue
  • Continued commitment to research development and demonstration (RD&D) with $321 million of expenditure
  • Reported employment stability
  • Faced a small decline a substantial expenditure in demonstration projects since 2006
  • Made fewer strategic alliances and more than double the number of research partnerships compared to prior years
  • Participated in hydrogen and fuel cell-related facilities and activity, RD&D expenditure and reported employment largely clustered in BC
