The Canadian Hydrogen and Fuel Cell Sector Profile 2008 reported a continued commitment within the hydrogen and fuel cell field to partnerships and investment in clean energy research and development in Canada. As this industry advances towards commercialization, Canada maintains its recognition as a leader in the hydrogen and fuel cell industry.

According to the report, in 2007, the Canadian hydrogen and fuel cell sector:

• Generated $168 million in sales with the US leading with the most revenue
• Continued commitment to research development and demonstration (RD&D) with $321 million of expenditure
• Reported employment stability
• Faced a small decline a substantial expenditure in demonstration projects since 2006
• Made fewer strategic alliances and more than double the number of research partnerships compared to prior years
• Participated in hydrogen and fuel cell-related facilities and activity, RD&D expenditure and reported employment largely clustered in BC
