CLIENT: A $10B+ Food Retailer

The challenge

This retailer was seeking PwC Canada’s Retail Consulting Services’ expertise to review the cost of telecommunications services and recommend cost-savings opportunities while not sacrificing existing service levels. The retailer also asked PwC Canada’s Retail Consulting Services to review the process for managing telecommunications services and recommend improvements.

Our approach

PwC Canada’s Retail Consulting Services conducted a bottoms-up review of the invoices, configuration and processes for telecommunication management. The scope included head office, distribution Centres, and store locations including but not limited to: data services, long distance and local usage, audio and video conferencing, cellular services, and telecom management process.

We reviewed the existing contracts and led a detailed RFP process in voice, network and wireless service lines. We also conducted a detailed organizational assessment and recommended organization and process changes.

The result

  • Implemented savings of 25% or $3.2 Million in awarding new contracts with current vendors
  • Implemented an additional $1.8 Million in demand side initiatives including: wireless entitlement, air card usage, unnecessary lines in stores, etc.
  • Significantly increased service levels and updated technology to meet improved standards
