Stephen (Steve) Williams is a partner in the U.S. tax group of PricewaterhouseCoopers LLP, working in the Calgary office. He serves as an advisor to Canadian companies and individuals on tax aspects of investing in the U.S. including tax planning, compliance, and representation with U.S. or state tax authorities.
Prior to re-joining the firm in early 2010, Steve was in private practice serving mid-market multinationals and large local Certified Public Accountant firms for 16 years in the Dallas area. In his practice he served in independent tax director roles and provided specialized support to professional service firms who had clients involved in cross-border trade and investment into or out of the U.S. Steve also taught accounting as an adjunct professor at Southern Methodist University.
Steve began his career with Price Waterhouse in 1986, working out of the Dallas office. There he gained broad-based U.S., international, and multi-state tax experience in the areas of planning, structuring, and compliance as he served large publicly traded multinationals and smaller privately held companies. During his time at Price Waterhouse in Dallas, Steve spent two years working in the firm’s consultancy practice assisting with the design and implementation of tax software to generate Schedules K-1 for master limited partnerships. When Steve left PWC as an international tax manager at the end of 1993, one of the roles he held in private practice for approximately eight years was that of an independent tax director to a U.S. based pipeline MLP.
Steve has a Bachelor of Science degree in accounting from Brigham Young University and is a graduate of the MBA program at the University of Notre Dame.
