Shawna Hansen is a senior manager in the Indirect Tax Services group of PricewaterhouseCoopers LLP working in the Vancouver office. She works within the firm's Indirect Tax Services as a member of the Value Added Tax (VAT) group.
Shawna advises clients on Canadian sales tax compliance and recovery opportunities, provides assistance with government audits and assessments, and assists companies with voluntary disclosure submissions where their sales tax obligations have not been met. She performs consulting and auditing services to businesses seeking development of their SOX 404 controls and procedures, and assists the public and private sector with indirect tax planning and compliance on public-private partnership infrastructure projects.
Shawna has more than 18 years' experience consulting on indirect taxes, including nine years with the Canada Revenue Agency's Goods and Services Tax (GST) department. She graduated with a Management Systems certificate (Honours) from Burnaby's British Columbia Institute of Technology and a Business Administration certificate from Grande Prairie College in Alberta. She also completed part I and II of the CICA's Commodity Tax In-depth and the advanced Financial Institutions course.
Shawna has co-developed and presented various seminars on GST and provincial sales tax. In September 2008, she presented her technical paper, Key Indirect Tax Issues for Public-Private Partnerships, at the CICA Commodity Tax Symposium.
