Ryan Thulien is a partner in the Tax Services practice of PricewaterhouseCoopers LLP working in the Toronto office. He is part of the firm's Consumer and Industrial Products industry group with a particular focus on the retail and consumer product industries.

Ryan specializes in advising multinational corporations on Canadian corporate tax matters, including investment structuring, cross-border transactions, Canadian compliance and accounting for income taxes.

Recently, Ryan worked with a multinational company to reorganize and refinance their Canadian subsidiaries to address legislative and regulatory tax changes. "I worked with the client to help them understand the impact of the changes on their business and devise alternative strategies to maintain a tax-efficient international structure," Ryan explains.

Ryan also assisted a client to reorganize their Canadian companies following a major business acquisition. He helped the company effectively finance the acquisition and integrate the target business into their existing structure while managing the related business objectives.

Ryan has a BCom from University of Calgary and was the 1994 recipient of the Chartered Accountants' Award from the Institute of Chartered Accountants of Alberta. He obtained his CA designation in 1996. Before joining the firm in 2000, he served small- and medium-sized businesses with an accounting firm in Lethbridge, Alberta.

Ryan is a lecturer for the CICA's In-depth Tax Course and is a regular speaker on Canadian tax matters in the Toronto area and internationally.
