Richard Gauthier is the national leader of the Actuarial Insurance Management Services group in the Toronto office of PricewaterhouseCoopers LLP.
Richard specializes in the personal and commercial insurance industry. He is the appointed actuary of more than 20 Canadian insurers (branches, domestic and provincial) as well as US companies. He also offers ratemaking services to personal and commercial lines, as well as specialized association-specific insurance programs.
Richard has also provided actuarial advice in various mergers and acquisition transactions. His background encompasses reinsurance, public automobile plans, professional liability programs, as well as managing an information and technology department.
Richard obtained a Bachelor of Actuarial Science from the Université Laval, Ste Foy. He is also a fellow of the Casualty Actuarial Society (FCIA), fellow of the Canadian Institute of Actuaries (FCIA) and member of the American Academy of Actuaries (MAAA).
Richard’s activities with professional associations resulted in his writing various guidance notes such as the Guidance Note on Discounting for Property & Casualty Insurance Companies. Richard is also co-author of the Canadian Accounting section "Property Liability Insurance Accounting" of the Insurance Accounting and System Association, published by Robert Strain.
Recent speaking engagements include “Discounting under GAAP” (September 2004) and “Standards of Sound Business and Financial Practices for Property and Casualty Insurers” (September 2002) at the Appointed Actuary Meeting of the CIA in Toronto.
