Raj is the Global Asset Management Assurance Leader, as well as the National Asset Management Leader in Canada and the Greater Toronto Area (GTA) Managing Partner. His professional and business experience spans India, UK and Canada in the areas of business assurance and advisory services, transaction support services, valuation services to Asset Management Companies and advisory services to small and large clients in a variety of businesses.
Raj specializes and is fully dedicated to serving clients in the asset management and fund industry. His asset management audit clients include mutual funds, pooled funds, hedge funds, structured products, venture capital funds, investment management companies, service providers and special purpose investment vehicles.
Raj established and led the Investment Performance Standards (AIMR/GIPS) attestation and consulting practice at PwC for a number of years. He was also in charge of the Canadian firm's Learning and Education initiative for the investment management industry. Raj has led assurance, consulting, valuation and due diligence assignments in the United Kingdom, Canada and India.
Raj has served on the working committee for industry participants in the investment management industry arising from the Ontario Securities Commission's (OSC) Stromberg Report for the mutual fund industry. He has also served as a member of the Canadian Institute of Chartered Accountant's (CICA) Study Group, "Assessing Risks and Controls of Investment Funds" and recently chaired the group to update this study. He was also a member of the Study Group for Phase II of the updated CICA Research Study Report on Accounting and Financial Standards for Investment Funds and currently chairs the CICA's Standing Committee for Investments Funds. Raj has spoken at numerous Investment Fund Institute of Canada (IFIC), OSC and CICA conferences and has served on IFIC's Accounting Advisory Committee.
Raj is a chartered accountant from the United Kingdom and Canada. He completed his MBA from the City University Business School (CASS) in London, England and graduated from the Advanced Management Program (AMP) at Harvard Business School.
Raj currently serves on the boards of the Toronto General Western Hospital Foundation and chairs its finance committee and The Toronto Board of Trade and is a member of the International Advisory Council of the Dean of the Schulich School of Business.
Raj has served as President of Indo Canada Chamber of Commerce, and on various other boards including Advancing Canadian Entrepreneurship, Duke of Edinburgh Awards - Ontario, Students in Free Enterprise-Canada and Pearson College of the Pacific, The Stratford Festival of Canada and the Stratford Festival Foundation. He chaired the Stratford Express, Stratford's single largest fund-raising event in 2008 and 2009 and was also chair of the campaign to raise funds for the exhibition, "India, The Living Arts" at the Canadian Museum of Civilization in Ottawa in 2000/2001. He has also, for three years chaired “Diwali, A Night To Shine”.
