Peter Hargitai is a Risk Assurance Services partner in the Toronto office of PwC. He has more than 19 years of experience helping clients define and implement cost effective risk management processes for information and operational systems.
Peter specializes in risk management, the implementation of control frameworks, and the design and assessment of business process and information technology (IT) controls. He has been actively involved in engagements to help clients comply with the Sarbanes-Oxley (SOX) and NI 52-109 (CSOX) internal and disclosure controls frameworks. Key areas of focus include risk and control identification, and ongoing attestation frameworks.
Throughout his career, Peter has overseen some of the largest, most complex multi-location controls assurance and advisory engagements in the Canadian market. His experience has been concentrated in the technology, entertainment, telecommunications and financial services industries, Specific engagements have included:
Peter currently leads PwC’s technology, entertainment and telecommunications sector within the Risk Assurance Services practice. He has also taken a lead role in developing PwC’s global controls assurance approach for service organizations.
Peter joined PwC in 1995 after graduating from the University of Toronto with a BCom degree. He worked for a major Canadian bank’s treasury operations group in 2000 before returning to PwC in 2001. Peter holds a CPA and CA•IT specialist designation, and from 2000 to 2002 taught accounting on a part-time basis at York University. He currently sits on the board of the Canadian Institute of Charted Accountants IT Alliance, with prime responsibilities within the membership and marketing committees.
