Melwyn Machado is an associate partner in the Tax Services practice of PricewaterhouseCoopers LLP working in the Ottawa office. He is the firm’s National Scientific Research and Experimental Development (SR&ED) advisor.

He joined the firm in 2006 and was formerly the Manager of Financial Legislative Applications and Director of the Policy Development Division in the SR&ED directorate of the Canada Revenue Agency (CRA). Mel was responsible for the development of application policies, training courses and training of CRA staff on SR&ED legislation.

He was the CRA liaison with the Department of Finance on the SR&ED program and was involved in the drafting of the SR&ED legislation. He has prepared and presented training to PwC offices across the country in these complex areas.

Mel has been awarded two prestigious national honours — the Queen Elizabeth II Golden Jubilee Medal and the Commemorative Medal for the 125th Anniversary of Confederation — both in recognition of his contributions to Canada, his community and to fellow Canadians.
