Lana Paton is the Canadian National Markets and People Tax Leader. She is also the Canadian National Energy, Utilities, Mining and Industrial Products Leader for Tax. She is a Partner in downtown Toronto, where she specializes in taxation issues related to companies in the utilities sector (including renewable energy) and the mining sector (including multi-nationals).
Lana has a broad range of experience providing tax advice to clients in the power and utilities industry, including both generators and distributors, energy marketing companies and gas distributors and mining companies in every stage from exploration to production. She has worked with Canadian companies that are foreign owned as well as Canadian owned.
Lana’s areas of specialization include tax issues related to cross-border tax planning, acquisitions, divestitures, corporate reorganizations, payments in lieu of taxes, provincial mining taxes and levies, tax accounting matters and dealing with taxation authorities in all levels of government.
With the firm since January 1994, Lana has made various utility and mining industry presentations and was a contributor to PwC’s annual Mine publication that reviews global trends in the mining industry. She has worked with a wide variety of advisors on numerous engagements in countries around the world.
Lana received BMath degree from the University of Waterloo in 1993. She has been a qualified CA since 1994.
