Kerry Gerber is a partner in the Assurance practice of PricewaterhouseCoopers LLP, working in the Toronto office. Since October 1, 2013, as Chief Auditor, Kerry has led the National Assurance Quality and Methodology Group. This group is responsible for all aspects of professional practice within Assurance, including risk management, methodology, regulatory matters including inspections by our regulators CPAB and PCAOB, and independence. In this role Kerry works with members of firm leadership, Assurance partners and staff across the country, as well as dedicated members of the AQM group, to build quality into our work practices and reports.
For 3+ years prior to his current role, he served the Assurance practice as the National Risk Management Partner, working with partners and engagement teams across the country in addressing a variety of practice matters.
Kerry was elected to the PwC Canada Partnership Board in 2011, and chairs the Board's Finance Committee and is a member of the Partner Affairs Committee.
In addition, he continues in a client service role. With more than 30 years’ experience, Kerry serves as auditor and business advisor to clients who want to establish credibility within their financial reporting processes and assists them with accounting, tax, and business issues. Canadian companies with international operations benefit from his experience with US GAAP and International Financial Reporting Standards (IFRS). Kerry has spent a significant portion of his career working in the Waterloo and London offices of the southwestern Ontario practice, with a year-long stint at the Australian firm's Sydney office.
In 1989, he transferred to the Tax practice, advising clients on GST implementation issues. Eighteen months later, he returned to the Audit and Assurance Group and was admitted to partnership in 1992. He has held several positions within PwC, including the role of risk management partner for eight offices in Ontario and Atlantic Canada (2003 to 2005), and more recently as the partner responsible for the Assurance practice in southwestern Ontario (2005 to 2010).
In 1981, he joined the firm as co-op student and later he received a BMath (Honours) degree from the University of Waterloo in 1984. While working full-time, he completed an MBA at the Richard Ivey School of Business at the University of Western Ontario in 2001. He has lectured in accounting at both the Institute of Chartered Accountants of Ontario's School of Accountancy and at the University of Waterloo.
In the community, Kerry was until recently a member of the board and audit and finance committee of the London Community Foundation and was the vice-chair of the board of the London Convention Centre. He has served on the boards of the United Way of Kitchener-Waterloo and Area, the K-W Symphony Orchestra, the K-W Chamber of Commerce, Community Justice Initiatives of Waterloo Region, and his local church. He is a member of the Westmount Golf and Country Club in Kitchener.
