Jillian Welch is a partner in the Toronto office of PwC Law LLP, a law firm affiliated with PwC Canada.
Jillian specializes in the taxation of investment and insurance products, and the taxation of insurance corporations and investment managers.
She has advised clients on mergers and acquisitions in the insurance and investment management area, and has also provided advice on the tax implications of executive compensation including stock options and other equity-based plans, including registered plans.
Jillian is a regular speaker on insurance and investment product topics. Most recently, she spoke on recent tax case law developments to the Tax Executives Institute and the Canadian Insurance Accountants Association, and also co-chaired a Canada Revenue Agency roundtable on insurance products and related issues for the Conference for Advanced Life Underwriting.
Jillian received her LLB in 1985 from the University of Toronto and her LLM (Taxation) in 1998 from York University in Toronto. She has a BSc from the University of Manitoba, as well as a BA and MA from Oxford University, England. She was admitted to the Ontario bar in 1987 and is a member of the Canadian Tax Foundation, the Canadian Bar Association and the International Fiscal Association.
