Antonio (Tony) Stanco is a director within the Risk Assurance Services practice of PwC. He is a leading internal audit expert who has developed and maintained strong internal audit and risk capabilities across a wide range of industries, particularly financial services, utilities, retail, and telecommunications.
Tony has more than 25 years of experience as a chief internal audit executive and has deep expertise in the areas of internal audit, regulatory compliance and enterprise risk management. Prior to joining PwC, he spent six years as Chief Audit Executive of Toronto Hydro. Previous positions also include Chief Audit Executive at AT&T Canada (now MTS All Stream), Chief Audit Executive at Counsel Trust (later SunLife), and senior audit roles at Sears Canada and Royal Trust. Throughout his career, Tony was responsible for planning, leading and delivering a wide range of complex assignments, including value for money/performance audits, integrated audits, risk assessments, information management/technology projects, and forensic investigations.
Tony is an active member of the Institute of Internal Auditors (IIA) and was president of the IIA Toronto Chapter from 2008 – 2010. He co-chaired the IIA National conference in Toronto in 2011 and currently serves on the Government Relations Committee. Tony is also a frequent speaker for the IIA and Canadian Institute of Chartered Accountants (CICA).
Tony has over 20 years of teaching experience at both the University of Toronto and York University. He is currently teaching a Governance course within the Masters of Financial Accountability program at York University, in addition to pursuing his CIA designation. Tony also serves as board member and treasurer of the Downsview Legal Aid Clinic.
