PwC Canada named one of Canada’s Top Employers for Young People in 2013

TORONTO, September 24, 2013 — For the fifth consecutive year, PwC is named by Mediacorp Canada Inc. as one of Canada’s Top Employers for Young People.  Earlier in the year, PwC was also recognized as Canada’s Top 100 Employers, one of GTA’s Top Employers and one of Canada’s Top Diversity Employers.

“Young people embarking on their career want to provide value right away and have control over their professional direction,” says Penny Partridge, Partner, Senior Vice-President Human Capital, PwC. “By providing flexibility in when and how they work, learning and development opportunities, and one-on-one coaching and mentoring, we strive to keep our young people engaged at PwC and set them up for future success.”

Invested in its employees, some of the current initiatives making PwC one of Canada’s Top Employers for Young People include:

  • Flexibility — PwC supports non-traditional ways of working by encouraging employees to balance their personal and professional goals. Offering flexibility enables employees to be more creative, adaptive and effective in the way they work. Whether it’s formal or informal flexibility options, our people have the support and programs needed to succeed inside and outside of the workplace.
  • Learning and  development – Formal learning (classroom, e-learn) is only one part of the solution, with one-on-one coaching, mentoring, and team based learning comprising a significant part of the overall development experience at PwC. Opportunities to learn efficiently and smarter is attainable with PwC’s “teach-don’t-tell” method of on-the-job coaching.
  • Global mobility – Employees looking to broaden their experience internationally can look to secure either short or long-term international opportunities.
  • Community involvement – With the PricewaterhouseCooper’s Canada Foundation, PwC hosts more than 300 Team Volunteering events that see over 2,300 people (on average over 40% of our total firm population) take advantage of one paid day off to volunteer in the community.
  • Company-wide communications – To help keep employees connected, PwC uses technology to share information and offer several ways to keep in touch, from traditional emails and electronic newsletters to blogs, in-house social networking sites and virtual suggestion boxes.

The report looks into the aspirations, work styles and values of the millennial/Generation Y employees (those born between 1980-1995).

First published in 2001, the Canada's Top Employers for Young People competition is organized by the editors of Canada's Top 100 Employers. The employers on this list are Canada's leaders in attracting and retaining younger employees to their organizations. Each employer is evaluated by the editors of Canada's Top 100 Employers in terms of the programs they have to attract and retain younger workers. These include benefits such as tuition assistance and the availability of co-op or work-study programs. Before 2007, this competition was published annually as an appendix to the Canada's Top 100 Employers paperback.
