PwC’s Susan Allen named 2013 Business Leader Champion

TORONTO, June 25, 2013 — PwC’s Susan Allen is named 2013 Business Leader Champion by Catalyst, the leading non-profit organization expanding opportunities for women and business. Honouring excellence for more than 25 years, Catalyst recognizes innovative organizational initiatives that address the recruitment, development and advancement of all women.

“It’s an honour to be recognized by Catalyst — an organization I admire and respect for its dedication to advancing opportunities for women in corporate Canada and beyond,” says Susan Allen, Assurance Partner and International Team Leader, Global Assurance Quality Review Group, PwC. “I share this award with the many staff and partners at PwC, who voice their personal support and connection to the business case for diversity and inclusion. I am inspired by our global CEO and our network leaders who recognize that true change only happens when we hold ourselves and each other accountable for the daily support and sponsorship of our women.”

As chair of the Women in Leadership/Retention of Women initiative, Susan developed and held leaders accountable for achieving metrics to increase the percentage of women in leadership roles and partnership. Susan focused her efforts on a national strategy to reduce the ‘gender gap’ and promote gender diversity at PwC. Her many accomplishments include:

  • Refining performance reviews to include a “gender lens” that increased awareness of and worked to reduce unconscious biases in the firm’s performance management process
  • Supporting and enhancing PwC’s Mentoring Connections and externally facilitated ‘Briefcase Moms’ coaching programs from their pilot stage to a fully embedded national program
  • Launching a Canadian maternity transition program “Life Changes” — and starting an executive sponsorship program for high potential women
