PwC recognized as one of the Best Employers for New Canadians in 2012

TORONTO, March 14, 2012 — PwC was selected by Mediacorp Canada Inc. for the first time as one of the Best Employers for New Canadians for 2012. This follows PwC’s most recent recognition as one of Canada’s Top 100 Employers for 2012, which represents the eighth consecutive year PwC has been selected for this prestigious award.

“Diversity and inclusion is a critical component of PwC’s success, and we’re truly honoured for this recognition,” Saul Plener, National Managing Partner, Strategy and Operations, PwC. “Starting a new job can be a daunting task, but immigrating to a new country and starting with a new company is a whole other ballgame. We understand the need to provide support to international hires through engaging programs, valuable resources and mentorship to make their transition into a new workplace and a new life in Canada a positive one.”

Some of the employee programs and initiatives that help smooth the transition for new Canadians at PwC include:

  • Recruitment — PwC partners with community organizations and works with multicultural media outlets to source recent immigrants. In 2011, PwC hosted an outreach workshop with the Consortium of Agencies Serving Intentionally Trained Persons (CASIP) and the Toronto Regional Immigrant Council (TRIEC), which included approximately 40 new Canadians. Candidates learned interview and resume writing skills, and had the opportunity to network with PwC employees and recruiters.
  • Mentoring — PwC offers Succeeding in Canada, which is a cultural orientation program that helps new Canadians learn how to work in a Canadian cultural environment, on a team with employees from Canada and other countries, and how to deliver and interpret feedback from people.
  • Internal training — PwC provides Cultural Diversity & Awareness Training to employees. The training helps managers work effectively with new Canadians by focusing on the unique situations both employees and clients face when working with people from different cultural backgrounds.

Now entering its fifth year, the Best Employers for New Canadians competition is managed by the editors of Canada's Top 100 Employers in partnership with ALLIES, a joint initiative of the The Maytree Foundation and The J.W. McConnell Family Foundation, two foundations with long histories of strengthening Canadian communities. The Best Employers for New Canadians competition is funded by the Government of Canada's Foreign Credential Recognition Program.
